The attempt at responding to the situation of a city. An open process.
We worked out four strategic categories alongside a documentation and an analysis of our experiences in Beirut and the examination of the refugee situation: physiological, social and cultural needs as well as safety and security. For every topic, we drafted solutions and designs. At the same time, we discussed the inadequacy of those solutions in this field. In this context, we were questioning not only the role of ourselves, but we were generally questioning the potential roles of architects.
Our focus was mainly on reinterpreting the common impression of refugees. We started the platform re-beirut.net to create a space to discuss possible solutions for the issue of urban refugees. Thus, it was intended as initial spark and less as a self-contained project.
